WIM/WSX Annual Prizegiving and Social Event

Saturday 25th February 2017 at Queen's Park, Bournemouth

Summary of WIM Prizegiving by Kevin Pickering and Chris Branford

Founders Trophy (ably organised by John Shucksmith at the SOC November classic at Fritham)

Brian Johnson was third in a time adjusted run of 5min 16 sec. Sarah Horsler 2nd in 5min 8 sec, it’s good to see one of our outstanding youngsters in the top 3 as sometimes it looks as if the time adjusted results are biased for us golden oldies.

And the winner, but a long way from being a golden oldie is Sue Hands. Sue scored 5.0 to narrowly beat Sarah Horsler (2nd) on 5.1 and Brian Johnson (3rd) on 5.2 to regain the trophy from last year’s winner – Wendy Bullen.

Club League

This year we had a fantastic 20 counting events during the year, thanks to the hard work of Mike Kite. The best 6 results counted for the league. Overall 71 club members took part.

Men - tie for 2nd place between Richard Brightman and Chris Branford on 534 points. The winner was Steve Horsler on 546 points.

Ladies - Tamsin Horsler was 3rd, Wendy Bullen second, and with a perfect score of 600 in winning every counting event, the winner was Sue Hands.

Juniors - Harry Bratcher-Howard easily won the boys trophy on 588 points, but for the girls the Horsler family last event race would decide the ranking order. Elizabeth with 540 points was narrowly pipped by Sarah with 545 points.

This year could be very interesting for the Horsler family!

Summer League Non-Handicap

This year there were 6 races with the 3 best scores to count. Thanks to Simon Branford for his prompt organisation of the results. A total of 205 competitors took part in the 6 events.

Men - Darren Whittingham WIM was 3rd on 286 points, Roger Crickmore WSX second on 288 and the winner was Dale Paget WSX on 293 points.

Ladies - Becca Ellis Wim was 3rd with 231 points, Denise Mullins SARUM 2nd with 266 points and the winner with 273 points Mary Nixon SOC.

Juniors Harry Bratcher-Howard 2nd with Darren Whittingham with outstanding score which made him 3rd in the men’s class wins the junior league

Summer League Handicap (I am sorry no trophies for this class)

Men - Chris Branford WIM won with a perfect score of 300 followed by Gavin Clegg QO at the time on 290 and Dale Paget WSX on 287.

Ladies - Mary Nixon SOC was a convincing winner on 281 with Denise Mullins SARUM 2nd on 268 and Karen French WIM 3rd on 246 points.

Juniors - Darren Whittingham was already 3rd in the Men’s class and needless to say won the junior class on 286 points with Harry Bratcher-Howard 2nd with 252 points.

Furrow Hoppers Trophy for some reason this didn’t get presented at the event so better late than never and apologies to the winning team. Wessex Raiders convincingly won the Trophy back from last year’s winners – Wimborne Orienteers.
